Terrys Rede zu Schwarzarbeit
Undeclared work is a very big, but very often invisible, problem in the European Union. Studies say that the informal sector amounts to 18.4% of GDP in European Union Member States. This has a lot of negative effects: it creates massive fiscal losses for our societies, it means unfair competition and, in fact, punishes those employers who are abiding by laws and employ with fair and decent conditions. Most importantly, it exploits workers, limits their access to social security and undermines their basic rights. We need to tackle undeclared work, and if we want to be successful in this we need to fight together on a European level.
